Improv Comedy Networking Night w/ IEEE

February 26 @ 6:30pm: Improv Comedy Networking Night

Join the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE): Franklin County Chapter and the IEEE Young Professionals: Columbus Section and as we celebrate the end of engineer's week with networking, comedy, and supporting our local businesses. First, we'll gather together via Zoom to virtually network and enjoy some snacks via a local meal delivery service, then, we'll head over to the improv comedy virtual platform for the show. Performers from Columbus's Nest Theatre will create improvisational comedy scenes based on suggestions from the audience (us!), so start thinking about the characters and situations you'd like to see come to life.

Title: Ohio’s Approach to Post-Construction Storm Water Quality Management

Abstract:  Justin Reinhart is an engineer with Ohio EPA’s Division of Surface Water where his role is to provide engineering assistance to the storm water program. This includes developing and maintaining Ohio’s stormwater manual: Rainwater and Land Development, as well as providing technical help to Ohio EPA staff, the local regulated community, as well as consultants and developers with navigating Ohio’s NPDES Construction General Permit. He has 20 years of experience designing agricultural and urban conservation practices while at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Ohio Department of Agriculture before coming to Ohio EPA. He has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the Ohio State University and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Ohio.

Title: “From Soil Profiles to Recommendations: Foundations, Floor Slabs, and Pavements.”

Abstract: Geotechnical engineering has been considered a “black box” to many in the A/E/C industry.  This presentation sheds some light on the geotechnical evaluation process from the proposal stage to the interpretation of boring logs for foundation, floor slab, and pavement design and construction.  It reviews important information for the geotechnical engineer to know, including information that the project team can specifically provide. Finally, examples of log interpretation and recommendations will be done in real time to demystify the process

Presenter: Ms. Alison K. Frye, PE from SME

Biography: Alison Frye, PE provides pavement, geotechnical, and construction material services (CMS) and evaluations related to pavement design, recycling, rehabilitation and construction, foundation design and construction, floor slab construction, and masonry construction. As a project manager, she is experienced in geotechnical evaluations related to industrial, manufacturing, commercial, government, and residential facilities. Alison has 7 years of experience with SME.  She holds a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio State University and a M.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Akron.
